The Chinese have made some interesting paperweights over the past 70 so so years these are often copies of antique European ones. Chinese paperweights can be quite pretty and are becomming collectable in their own right. I find that these have a base that is flat and which has not been polished which is a good way of distinguishing them. Also the glass seems to have a yellow tinge when compared to say a modern Caithness paperweight.
A cheap way of getting a paperweight collection started!
