Ive come across a real treasure today, an original Victorian photograph of a lady wearing a locket. I think she also has earrings but you cant quite see these. Photographs of this age showing people wearing their jewellery add a lot to our knowledge of the jewels of the period and how they chose to wear them.
See the pretty lady is wearing her locket on a long and heavy chain against a plain dress and with a high lace collar. It looks very smart. This picture came from inside a Victorian locket which I think is the one the lady is wearing. Also inside was a picture of a handsome young man , its nice to think they were married or sweethearts and have been together all this time. Of course the photos will go to whoever buys the locket and hopefully they will stay together for much longer.
I will be looking out for more antique pictures showing jewellery. Do you have any? If so please do add them to the AntiquesAvenue facebook page so we can all see
Update September 2nd. Ive found another lovely lady in her finery. She has a double row pearl chocker necklace which sits above her floral dress. Whats the date of this? Certainly early 1900s possibly before WWI so about 100 years old
